Whether these structures are truly living organisms has yet to be determined. Every structure they create appears to be grown from harvested protein rather than built. Lanky technology seems to be exclusively biological in nature. Humans are totally blind there without the use of infrared imaging or similar technology. Other than lightning, there is no natural source of visible light anywhere, and the entire moon is as dark as a cave. While the tides provide enough heat for carbon-based life, Green is still a sunless world. Because of tidal heating and the atmosphere's greenhouse effect, the average surface temperature is 40 C (104 F).

The weather is very volatile and often shifts from still air to violent rainstorms on an hourly basis. Green also has a thick global cover of water vapor clouds. The percentages are not stated, but carbon dioxide is present in levels sufficient to rapidly suffocate a Human. Green's atmosphere consists of nitrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide. Because of Green's volcanic activity, most of its surface consists of basaltic rock and gravel. This heats Green to habitable temperatures in spite of the total lack of sunlight, allowing it to retain liquid water and a thick atmosphere. It experiences strong tidal forces from its planet and the other moons, resulting in substantial tidal heating and volcanism. Green is 6,000 kilometers across, slightly smaller than Mars and half the size of Earth. The rogue planet system is located about 900 light-years from Earth and 17 light-years from the nearest star. Green is the second of four major moons orbiting a rogue gas giant planet - the other three are named Red, Blue, and Yellow. The probable Lanky homeworld is an exomoon given the provisional name of Green. They can also hear sounds audible to Humans. They can sense both infrared and radio waves, and it is implied that infrared detection serves as their closest analogue to vision. Lankies have no eyes and cannot perceive visible light. Despite their preferred conditions, they are able to function in Earth-like atmospheres, even very cold ones, although possibly at reduced ability. The ratio of carbon dioxide to oxygen in Lanky atmospheres is roughly the reverse of that found on Earth because of this, Lankies are sometimes referred to as "flipping" the atmosphere of a conquered planet. Their preferred atmosphere seems to be roughly 80% nitrogen and 20% carbon dioxide, with only trace quantities of oxygen, and at temperatures of over 30 C (86 F).

Lankies thrive in atmospheres quite different to that of Earth. They primarily eat plants and fungi, but are also shown to hunt smaller animals. Observation of Lankies outside of combat revealed them to be omnivorous.

Their skin is eggshell-white in color and extremely tough, allowing Lankies to shrug off heavy gunfire.įor more than a decade after first contact, the Lanky diet was unknown. This, along with the vaguely beak-shaped mouth, gives the head a vaguely ceratopsian appearance. The head has no eyes and has a shield-shaped plate on top. Their stance is therefore similar to that of Death Angels or the Cloverfield Monster, and they have gaits compared a fruit bat's. The forelimbs end in four-fingered hands, usually used for walking but also capable of grasping and carrying objects. They are quadrupeds, with very long forelimbs and short hindlimbs ending in three-toed feet. In any case, their mass is so great that the earth literally shakes under their steps.Īs their name implies, Lankies are quite thin. They seem to be denser than Earth animals, weighing around 300 tons on average - they were originally believed to weigh a thousand metric tons (1,100 short tons) based on incorrect battlefield estimates. Lankies average 80 feet (25 m) in height on all fours, with a 30% size variation that can lead to heights between 65 feet (20 m) and 100 feet (30 m). Lankies are incredibly large creatures, rivaling the largest Earth animals in size and far surpassing them in weight.
